Investment Associate, Food & Agriculture

Investment Associate, Food & Agriculture

Chicago, IL

The Role

We are looking for highly motivated and talented individuals to join one of the leading private investment firms committed to human and planetary health. S2G Ventures is looking for an Associate to play a key role on the Food & Agriculture investment team.

Desired Experience and Skills

As a member of the investment team, Associates spend their time on new investment opportunities, portfolio company management, and internal firm operations. As an Associate, you will gain experience in evaluating new investments and learning, from the ground-up, how a food & agriculture-focused investor identifies, evaluates, and executes investments across a diverse set of companies. Associates will have the opportunity to work with senior members of the firm and have extensive interactions with management teams and external advisors.

Associates play a key role in supporting the due diligence and research efforts of the deal team while collaborating with portfolio company executives (e.g., CEOs, COOs) to implement S2G's investment and operating model. Associates are also responsible for sourcing deals by attending conferences, networking with other investors and bankers, and building industry connections. Over a two-year period, associates will evaluate hundreds of investment opportunities, develop expertise in various industries and business models, and refine their skills as private markets investors.

Associates will support S2G’s Food & Agriculture team, which invests in innovative solutions across the food and agriculture value chain. The team focuses on structured equity investments, spanning the entire food value chain—from production and ingredients to evolving consumer behavior. This holistic approach enables the creation of a portfolio that captures both environmental and financial system impacts and synergies. The role offers a unique opportunity to shape the team’s long-term trajectory while leveraging the resources and expertise of the S2G platform.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities will revolve around three primary types of work:

  • New Investment Evaluation and Underwriting: Associates will collaborate with deal teams  to source and evaluate investment opportunities, research industry trends, develop sectorspecific theses, analyze complex data to uncover key financial and business insights, and  support the execution of transactions. Associates are expected to take the lead on due diligence  processes, managing providers, timelines, and deliverables. Proficiency in financial modeling  is essential, including the ability to build models based on specific assumptions.

  • Portfolio Management: Associates will work with deal teams to help manage portfolio  company reporting, oversight, and operations. Associates will work directly with management  teams to help implement industry best practices in a variety of areas (examples include  constructing pitch materials, financial reporting, capital raising, organizational structure, sales  execution, product road mapping, exit planning, etc.).

  • Firm Operations: Associates will work across the firm and have responsibility around reporting  and valuation modeling, industry and company data collection and tracking, CEO summits and  working with external service providers.

Qualifications

  • S2G as an organization is focused first on culture – how you engage is as important as the  skills that you bring to the role
