Assistant Controller

The Role
S2G is seeking an Assistant Controller to support our team in numerous areas including: managing all day-to-day fund operations; performing daily accounting processes; identifying and assessing financial risks, developing risk mitigation strategies, and monitoring compliance with risk management policies; serving as one of the key points of contact for investors, addressing their financial inquiries, providing regular updates, and ensuring transparency in reporting, and more.

Key Responsibilities
1. Fund, General Partner, Other Fund Related Entities and Co-Investment Management
Manage all day-to-day fund operations, including capital calls, distributions, management fee calculations, carry calculations, cash management and investor reporting.
Collaborate with investment teams to evaluate fund performance, track investment portfolios, confirm co-investment policy is followed, assist with quarterly valuations, and provide financial insights for decision-making.
Coordinate with external auditors and tax advisors to ensure compliance with fund-specific reporting requirements.
Manage relationship and be main point of contact with third party fund administrators.
Review quarterly fund and co-investment financial statement reporting packages.
Perform daily accounting processes including journal entries, account reconciliations and general ledger transactions in order to maintain accurate financial information in the QuickBooks accounting system (or similar software) for all co-investments and other fund related entities not managed by third-party fund administrator.
Review deliverables prepared by third-party fund administrator, including investor allocations and cash reconciliations.
Review accrual and expense calculations and ensuring proper booking and allocation of expenses in accordance with the LPA.
Review, process and pay vendor invoices. Ensure all documentation and approvals are received and that transactions have been coded and accounted for properly.
Vendor management and reconciliations including all data required for 1099 reporting and SEC Compliance.
Perform pre- and post-close deal tasks and assisting with fundraising process deliverables.
Respond to limited partner inquiries and additional special requests.
Prepare SEC reporting requirements.
Prepare ad-hoc reports for management.
Review Fund LPA, PPMs and side letter and ensure proper compliance.
Ensure LPA and SEC reporting requirements deadlines are met.
Work closely with the Firm’s external service providers and tax preparers in support of the annual balance sheet review, tax return and other tax filings preparation.
2. Management Company and Compliance
Perform daily accounting processes including journal entries, account and bank reconciliations and general ledger transactions to maintain accurate financial information in the QuickBooks accounting system (or similar software) for all management company entities.
Review, process and pay vendor invoices. Ensure all documentation and approvals are received and that transactions have been coded and accounted for properly.
Vendor management and reconciliations including all data required for 1099 reporting and SEC Compliance.
Prepare invoices for portfolio company fees and reimbursable expenses, manage status of the invoices, record related cash receipts, and handle any inquiries.
Assist in the month-end or quarterly closing process, including bank and other account reconciliations and preparation of financial statements and other management reports.
Process T&E company credit card and personal credit card employee expense reimbursements and monitor payments. Ensure all documentation and approvals are received and that transactions have been coded and accounted for properly.
Administer accounts payable and accounts receivable.
Document and maintain organized, complete and accurate supporting information for all financial transactions.
Work closely with the Firm’s external service providers and tax preparers in support of the annual balance sheet review, tax return and other tax filings preparation.
Assist in the administration of the SEC compliance monitoring program.
Assist with daily office operational tasks as needed.
3. Risk Management
Identify and assess financial risks, develop risk mitigation strategies, and monitor compliance with risk management policies.
Actively seek opportunities to improve operations and implementing internal controls
4. Investor Relations
Serve as one of the key points of contact for investors, addressing their financial inquiries, providing regular updates, and ensuring transparency in reporting.
Collaborate with the investor relations team to develop and deliver investor presentations, financial reports, and performance updates.
5. Team Leadership
As the team grows, lead and mentor a team of finance professionals, fostering
a culture of excellence, collaboration and continuous improvement.

Qualifications required for your success
Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related field. MBA or CPA qualification preferred.
Proven experience (5-8 years) as a Senior Accountant or Assistant Controller within the venture capital or private equity industry.
Strong knowledge of financial planning, analysis, and reporting principles.
In-depth understanding of fund accounting, investor relations, and regulatory compliance requirements.
Proficient in financial modeling, forecasting, and valuation techniques.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
High level of integrity, ethics, and professionalism.
Proficient in MS Office applications, particularly Excel, QuickBooks (or similar accounting software), and ability to learn new applications quickly
Ability to multitask, prioritize, and maintain a high level of attention to detail while working in a fast-paced environment
Experience working with a third-party fund administrator and a Registered Investment Advisor
